I'm an admin on the small-ish IRC network, ZiRC (www.zirc.org), and I don't frequently visit other networks. However, if I know where everyone is at, I'll certainly make it a point to stop on by and have a chat. shameless plug> And if you all want to move to ZiRC, let me know and I'll make moving easy for you! /shameless plug> ßitter Thank God! -Just some general fyi stuff : Meetings are held at Lenox food court (next to the windows at south end of food court)...according to 2600 mag. meetings are to start around 6pm....but due to atlanta traffic and peoples work schedules, most show up around 7pm. So wait around if you are actually interested in attending the meeting. Mall security usually chases us out around 9-ish pm, so yes, we do usually end up going over to the Caribou Coffee shop on P'tree street near the Piedmont Rd. intersection (we have been known to stay there till 3am sometimes)(sometimes due to a crowded Caribou, we go over to the Joe Mugs News Stand next door...LOOK for us) Come to the meetings, make friends, find others with common interests, network, etc.....for those that want to do smaller offshoot meetings, this is a way to make it happen. Atlanta scene is dead ? I don't think so ! You get out of the community what you put into it ! If you contribute, than you just may be recognized instead of being ignored ! Hackers also tend to be a bit standoff-ish/paranoid in these times, Give us a chance to get to know you prior to you making judgements that are unfounded ! Show up for meetings and TALK, contribute...if you don't meet people and think the scene is lame, you have only yourself to blame ! I was amazed with the stupidity from the people that setup the network at Rich's. They have some kind of wireless routers screwed up on the cieling. The crazy (not just being a public hub) is that the MAC address and the ip address, including the gateway is all labled on the box itself. MaxieZ voting failure -I suggest keeping Lenox Mall as the !st Friday meeting spot, but splitting out to sepearte meetings at other times of the month. Meeting once a month is limiting, but meeting several times at one spot is "over camping" the area. I live near downtown Decatur (Yo East side!), and I do not mind Lenox on a Friday. I make plans for the ride, or I take MARTA. Not a problem. However, I wonder why there are not a bunch of geeks from the downtown universities hooking up on a regular basis. Shouldn't there be a joint GA-GATech gathering downtown once per month? And since there was such strong support for a Norcross/Perimeter Mall meeting last year, why not organize one? I never thought I'd say this but, I'm with James.. Innovox sounds like the place. A few years ago I was in san deigo for a few weeks and hit a meeting out there.. I came back really jelious as, not only did they have a really cool meeting with lots of bright, friendly people, they had connectivity and, lot's of it.. Now of course, in 99, this wasn't 802.11 but, it was a start. Now that it's here, and the possibility exists, I really think this is the way. 802.11 cards are mega cheap compared to what they used to be. I haven't yet been to innovox, I only heard of it about a week ago but, now that I know it's here I will definately be there.. meetings or no. --- What I don't like, is the idea of having the meeting at the mellow mushroom.. It's just not the right place. I also think the way this has been handled is pretty lame, as I heard the "vote" was basicly a bunch of people ignoring Rockit as, well.. as people tend to do... I dunno, maybe I'm just hyper sensitive but, has anyone noticed Rockit's paranoid obsession with "the feds"? I mean, gone are the days of illicit projects in dark rooms and, even if you are participating in illegal activity in your own life, 2600 meetings are by standard not to be used for any such illegal activity.
